Description

Viburnum shrubs thrive in sun and shade and grow best in hardiness zones 3-9.

The shrubs make a beautiful border for yards and gardens and are deer and drought-resistant.

Viburnum shrubs bloom in the spring and there are more than 150 species available.

The shrubs usually grow to about 3 feet at maturity, but some trees fall into the Viburnum category that grows as tall as 30 feet.

The shrubs yield delicate white flowers and tiny berries. Viburnum has a pleasant scent that attracts birds and insects. However, the plants are deer resistant, so they will remain intact if deer forage your property looking for food.

Arrowood Viburnum is a dense-growing shrub that thrives in several soil conditions. This shrub is a great choice for privacy hedges and wood breaks.

Black Haw Viburnum is also adaptable to several soil conditions and is easy to grow and maintain. The spread of the shrub can reach up to 12 feet and the plant yields white flowers at the beginning of May. Black Haw Viburnum is also known for its dark blue fruit that is safe to eat.

Nannyberry shrubs are classified as small trees or large shrubs. The plant has stunning white blooms and berries that are deep purple. This shrub is native to the northeast and midwest regions of the U.S. and grows in the southern area of Canada as well. These shrubs thrive in both moist and dry soil.

If you want shrubs with a unique bloom arrangement, the Viburnum plicatum is a great voice. It produces flowers in a double-file pattern. The Viburnum dentatum is another beautiful shrub that has horizontal branches, which makes it easy to see the blooms.

Viburnum shrubs include many diverse plants and are closely related to the Weigela and honeysuckle shrubs. These plants grow well together since they flourish in similar soil and sun conditions.
