Weigela Shrubs bloom profusely in spring; then sporadically during the summer. They are often used as specimen or border plants. A tough and hardy plant, Weigela requires little maintenance, and is not prone to pest infestations. Smaller varieties can be placed in containers on a porch or patio. Plant in full sun for the largest show of spring blooms. Weigela may also be planted in light shade - flowering will not be as generous, but you should get some blooms. Plant in an area with moist, well-draining soil. They need to be pruned to keep their shape, and to remove dieback from winter. The Red Weigela has beautiful flowers that will grow in clusters. Talk about curb appeal- this plant has it! The Pink Weigela, also known as the Weeping Weigela, is an excellent choice to add to a garden or home landscaping area.
