Common growing zones for the Rabbiteye Blueberry plant are 3 through nine.
These zones run right through the country's center and include Oklahoma, Tennessee, and North Carolina. The plant tends to grow well in these zones because of the balance of temperatures during the year, especially during the winter months when the temperatures get colder.
Our Rabbiteye Blueberry plants produce fruit over about four to six weeks.
The blooms are seen on the plants in May and June. Most plants have blooms on them in the middle of May when the warmer weather of spring arrives.
Bloom Color - Blooms on the plant are usually white before turning to light pink. When the blueberries begin growing, they are pale pink before they get their bright blue color. When the berries are dark blue, they are usually ripe enough to pick from the bush.
Height at Maturity - It typically takes our Rabbiteye Blueberry plants ten years to reach mature size. When they get this point, they are close to 10 feet, sometimes a little taller, depending on the growing conditions. The plant needs space around it to grow to maturity.
Soil Type Preferred- The Rabbiteye Blueberry plant grows well in acidic soils. If the ground has more organic material, then the plant tends to increase a bit better. This is another reason the plant likes growing in the central zones.
Sun or Shade - If there is full sunshine during the day, then the plant will usually produce more berries and tend to have brighter leaves and berries than the dull shades seen if the plant grows in shady areas.
Plant Description- Even though the Rabbiteye Blueberry seems as though it would be a berry plant, it's a shrub that grows into a rounded shape. As the plant grows, the stems become longer and produce berries in clusters on the ends.
