Shrubs: Often the Anchor of a Landscape
A shrub or bush is a small to medium-sized woody plant. It is distinguished from a tree by its multiple stems and shorter height, usually under 20 ft tall. Plants of many species may grow either into shrubs or trees, depending on their growing conditions.
Shrubs like the burning bush have beautiful green leaves that turn to a fiery red in the fall. This shrub really looks like it is on fire when the leaves turn red, hence the name. This shrub is great for a privacy fence or hedge row. It can grow up to 8 feet tall, usually with a spread almost as wide as the height, giving it a rounded appearance. This shrub grows best in moist, well-drained soils. It can thrive in full sun as well as partial shade.
The Althea or The Rose of Sharon is easily grown. It re-seeds easily ( too easily according to some). It has showy flowers or pink, white, or red in the summer.
