A Lavender Crepe Myrtle is a bush or tree with light purple or pink flowers; They are low maintenance and offer a lot of beauty for the trim work. The scientific name for a Crepe Myrtle is Lagerstroemia Indica. Crepe Myrtles can grow in any soil, but they like alkaline soil, which the South has many. They also need a lot of suns, at least 6 hours every day. It blooms between Mid-May and early June and can continue blooming for 90-120 days, depending on conditions. The best time to plant is late fall to early spring. A full-size one can grow 15-25 feet high and 6-15 feet wide.
As for pruning, you do not want to mistake pruning the tops, as this will cause it not to bloom. The proper way to prune is right before spring in the winter, when the branches don't have leaves. Prune the dead branches and any branches that come in contact with each other. Be careful not to change the shape of the tree, or cut too much off.
