Flowering shrubs are a beautiful addition to your garden area.
You can also use the shrubs to line your porch or adorn the front of your home.
These plants are small in stature but produce stunning blooms that instantly add curb appeal to your property.
The hydrangea shrub thrives in hardiness zones 3-9 and grows well in both full sun and partial shade. The shrubs are deer resistant and make great border plants. Hydrangea shrubs bloom in spring and summer and grow between 3-5 feet tall on average. The shrub does well in both alkali and acidic soil. If the shrubs are grown in acidic soil, the blooms will be blue or purple. If the hydrangea grows in alkali soil, the flowers will be pink.
Weigela shrubs also bloom during the spring season. The flowers are a bright pink hue, and some flowers are scarlet. The blooms contrast nicely against the oval leaves, which are a medium shade of green. These shrubs thrive in full sun, but can also grow in the shade. Weigela is native to East Asia and needs well-drained clay soil for optimal growth. Hummingbirds are drawn to the plant and consume the sweet nectar of the Weigela flowers.
If you want to add striking color to your landscape, the Burning Bush shrub is a great choice. This shrub thrives in zones 4-8 and makes a wonderful border plant. Burning bush shrubs are drought tolerant and need full sun to thrive. The shrub blooms in spring but stays beautiful throughout the year. Yellowish white flowers appear on the plant in spring, and when the flowers fall, small red berries are displayed on the branches. Throughout the summer, the leaves of the plant become darker and in the fall the leaves go from deep green to fiery red.
