Creek Sedge

CAREX  AMPHIBOLA-CREEK SEDGE

Creek Sedge is semi-erect, compact and enjoys deciduous shade in upland or floodplain areas. It is often used in shaded gardens, along walkways, around wooded areas, and is good for sloped areas for erosion problems. It has narrow green foliage that may be around 1/8 of an inch in width, and up to 12 inches long. This plant will also grow well around lakes, or ponds for a natural look. It likes partial shade to full sunlight where the soil is moist. It will appear similar to grass growing in clumps and will fill in an area very quickly. March is the best time to cut down this plant to be about 3 inches tall that will help to promote new growth the following season. It does have the ability to tolerate dry conditions as well. This grass is very attractive around driveways as a border, or around garden paths adding the dark green color to the landscape. It has a pH preference of 7.0 which is neutral. It is difficult for weeds to survive around the base due to the dense, mound forming habit of this sedge grass. It can grow in sandy, clay, or loam soils. It will also be an excellent addition if planted for a deck.
