Bluets Quaker Ladies-Hedyotis Caerulea

Bluets Quaker Ladies
Bluets Quaker Ladies, otherwise known as the Houstonia caerulea, are a perennial plant found throughout eastern North America. The growing zone reaches from Ontario and Newfoundland all the way down to the gulf coast states of the U.S. Bluets Quaker Ladies are found amongst other wild flowers in grassy terrains. They are often cultivated for more naturalistic settings, thriving in a variety of soils. Reaching almost 8 inches in height, Bluets Quaker Ladies produce a single bud on each stem. Once in bloom, the flowers produce a striking, yellow-centered blossom, surrounded by 4 petals, and usually pale-blue in color. The bud reaches only 1 cm in width, but the productive plants flower in abundance, creating a visually-appealing array of scattered blossoms. It is the shape of the flowers, resembling the hats once worn by Quaker women, that gives the Bluets their name. On occasion, Bluets Quaker Ladies are also seen with pink or white blossoms. The buds first appear in the spring but can last well into the fall. Due to the stems small stature and the plant's easy-to-maintain nature, the flowers are a common and colorful filler. Usually planted beneath larger blooms, at the height of their flowering the Bluets Quaker Ladies produce a blue, carpet-like appearance along garden beds that is a captivating visual enhancement. Bluets Quaker Ladies begin to appear in early spring through early fall. The blooms are a bluish color and are small and delicate in appearance. The foliage is a medium green that provides great contrast for the blooms. They are also referred to as Mountain Bluets or Azure Bluets. Hedyotis Caerulea is the botanical name for these plants. They do best in climate zones 3 through 8 and love full sun to partial shade. These are very adaptable to various soil conditions. Climate Zone:  3 through 8 Mature Height:  4 to 6 Inches Sunlight: Full Sun to Partial Shade Soil Type:  Adaptable to Various Soil Conditions Ships As:  Bareroot Plant
